Chance are when you think ‘tent’ you aren’t thinking of the tents at this fantastic camp in South Africa’s Krüger National Park. Run by CCAfrica (‘Conservation Corporation Africa’), Ngala is typical of the firm’s high-end safari facilities.
Lest you think the relative luxury of the place means you’re not really ‘out there’, you may wake to large animals rubbing their backs against the poles of your elevated tent or listening, as we did, to the cook tell of jumping up on a refrigerator when he turned around to find a lion with him in the kitchen. Plus, a short trek out and you’re likely to sight all of southern Africa’s ‘big animals’ and a laundry list of little ones that are no less fascinating.
You’ll also eat and drink well and laugh long evenings away with some amazing hosts.
Ngala means ‘lion’ in one of the local tongues. It also means ‘aim high and go home happy’ in the South African safari scene.
