If politics were not what they are, Cuban artist Nora Mirsy would be well-known to North American audiences, her sound refined by some powerhouse recording empire or another, her pockets quite full of royalties in the manner of a medium-sized talent.
Instead, you need to meet and hear Mirsy at a Cuban hotel like the one whose lobby hosted her on a warm night in Santiago de Cuba in 2006 or the Valentine’s Day celebration in public square of that same city two years hence. She reminded me then of a Latin Tracy Chapman and she does still. The resemblance is not close in formal terms. For me, it exists more at the level of the longing and simplicity that find themselves melded in her voice, a quality I take to be practically a Chapman signature.
Mirsy’s music is scored for a simple conjunto of traditional Cuban instruments.
The final of thirteen tracks of Como Lluvia Fiel is an artistically stirring rendition of the revolutionary paean, Hasta siempre comandante, a staple tribute to Che Guevara.
I’m writing to you just to tell you that the title of the song is “Lluvia fiel”, a wonderful song of the santiaguero Jose Nicolas, and powerful version of Nora.
I was wondered to see someone so far from my country could talk about myself and specially about my songs. I never though to compared with TRACY CHAPMAN. I only give my heart ech time when sing. In another way is not possible to say all what is my heart. I glad a those persons who have the possibility to hear me in the hotel and placed me in their hearts. I am here to sing for ever.
Nora, heard you in Havan Hotel lobby in 2007 and you were brilliant – bought your album and play it regularly – in fact my band is going to learn some of your tunes when we get the chords and words, Best Wishes, Gerry and Kabana Band
Dear Nora,
My Husband and I had the great pleasure of hearing you sing in Satiago de Cuba last year. We bought your CD and listen to it often. The purity of your voice gave us such pleasure. I hope you continue to produce your beautiful music. We will be in Holguin next month and hope to be able to purchase more of your music when we are there. We wish you continued succes.

Apreciada Nora,
David
I’ve heard Nora in the lobby of that big hotel in Santiago and I’ve bought her record. My favourite song is “Lluvia fiel”.She reminds me of Tracy Chapman, you’re right, and I agree with the fact that cuban artists suffer so much of the political situation. There is plenty of good music in Cuba to discover.
Dear Dario,
Many thanks for your post. Lluvia Fiel is indeed a very fine song as performed by Nora. ¡Viva Italia and viva Cuba!
David

Dear Jochen,
Thanks for your post. I’m just beginning a two-week vacation away from home. I believe I have the information you request and will be happy to send it to you. Sadly, I will only be able to do this after I return. Let’s be in touch in two or three weeks.
Many thanks.
David
dear nora,
few years ago, spent three nights before your piano.
you made my trip to cuba super perfect. Speaking no Spanish and your English not perfect (little joke), it was only music we shared, you made it, I enjoyed it. You should be on every international stage.
Be sure, the cd I bought, all my friends become ‘wild’ of…
we ‘ll meet again?
alex.
dear nora , we have had the pleasure of hearing you singing two times in the lobby of the hotel melid santiago de cuba last week 24 February 2011. we bought immediately your cd. we must thank you for the unforgettable times that you give us in that lobby. your voice is so fantastic, really give us the real feeling of the cuban people. you are just wonderful. since we are back in belgium, we play your cd every morning at breakfast and it brings us immediately back in the hotel , in front of you. we don’t know if you remember us but we were the couple who asked to sing again ” the commandante ” . it is a pity that this song is not on your cd that we bought.
we wish you the very best in your carrier and hope that some day the hole world may enjoy your unique voice, your sincerely danielle and fernand
Hi;
I had the pleasure if hearing Nora Mirsy play guitar and sing beautifully at The Meila Santiago de Cuba hotel. And of course I bought her cd titled: Como LLuvia Fiel (might have the Lluvia part wrong but it seems to fit in translation). The recording is just about the best given what I’ve bought prior from hotel and street bands — their recordings can be awful sounding. But not hers this time.
The Lady is a delight — she managed to understand my fractured Spanish when asking her about the songs she liked to play.
Go Nora!
Ola Nora, I send the best wishes to you from erfurt in germany.
I had met you in March 2011 in hotel lobby in Santiago de Cuba.
Your voice is wonderful.
I had the pleasure to play with you.
I played the harmonica to your voice and guitar.
It was an amazing feeling.
When comes the time, when you and me play together your songs.
My harmonicas and me wait for you.
Please give me a sign.
I think about you.
I think off you.
Steffen
I Love you Nora !!!
