This hilarious, light-hearted flick will not tax your mind.
It’s classic Jim Carrey, but the truth is that Tea Leoni and Alec Baldwin almost steal the show with strong supporting comedy roles.
Carrey is a little less bizarre in this one than the style that has made his name, but still hilarious in his feel for the absurdity that comes into the little guy’s life. As Dick, he takes all he can and then gets pushed over the proverbial edge, to great comic effect.
But it’s Leoni’s character Jane, her hyperventilating neuroses, and her gradual warming to husband Dick’s life of crime that warms this reviewer’s heart.
Baldwin makes hay with his limited screentime as the ultimate Corporate Bad Guy, humbled in the end by Dick and Jane’s Robin Hood turn.
I sat down to this movie with low expectations, all of which were exceeded by a very funny provocation to mindless laughter. My three movie companions loved it too, which means you probably will also.
