I must confess to having missed the memo on The Da Vinci Code.
Many people have told me that they hated the poorly-written book but that the content ‘really makes you think.’
By contrast, I found the book an enjoyable page-turner. It was the content that is ludicrous from any historical or common-sense angle from which one might care to view it. As a biblical scholar, several gaffes made me laugh out loud on airplanes. I think Brown is an appealing writer. I wish fewer people looked to him as a reliable source on stuff that actually happens.
When he does stumble upon historical milestones, he repeatedly does just that: stumble.
The wise reader will look to Brown for entertainment, but not confuse his stories with things that actuallly happened.
